Rockledge Regional Medical Center Leads Vaccinations of Brevard County School District Employees

Over 300 Teachers, Principals, and Staff under 65 and at high-risk for COVID-19 to receive Vaccine through Rockledge Regional Initiative

FEB. 26, ROCKLEDGE, FL – Rockledge Regional Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, today announced that it will administer a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to a few hundred at-risk Brevard Public Schools teachers, principals and staff under 65, thanks to an allotment of vaccines sent to the hospital by the State of Florida. The vaccination site will be in operation this Saturday, February 27, and on Saturday, March 6, at the hospital.

“Just like our healthcare workers and emergency first responders, teachers and frontline school employees, are essential to the Brevard County community,” said Andy Romine, President of Rockledge Regional Medical Center. “We believe school employees should be prioritized for the vaccine along with other at-risk groups, and guidance from the state of Florida allows us to move forward with those vaccinations. Rockledge Regional is proud to support the district and is committed to doing all we can to ensure our school staff and children can remain in classrooms safely.”

Across February 27 and March 6, more than 300 school district employees are expected to receive their first dose of the vaccine at Rockledge Regional Medical Center, with support from Rockledge and Cocoa Fire and EMS. Vaccinations are by appointment only, and while all appointments available have already been scheduled through the district, the hospital is standing by for additional allocations from the state.

“BPS is proud to partner with Rockledge Regional Medical Center and Marathon Health, who have helped with scheduling the vaccine appointments.  Since the COVID-19 vaccine first became available, we have advocated to get vaccine access to our 9,000 employees. This is the next step in our mission to make that possible,” said BPS Superintendent Dr. Mark Mullins.

“Rockledge Regional Medical Center is optimistic we will receive additional doses, and we will work closely with Brevard Public Schools and its insurance partners to generate a list of eligible staff so we can move forward as quickly as possible,” Romine added.
